I already know from my experiences and others’ that Tumblr sometimes unfollows people without the user’s knowledge, but I don’t think that alone can explain this pattern where the number Tumblr told me a month ago and the number it tells me now (describing the Oct 24 time frame) are different. Maybe Tumblr has a memory disorder and is just generally unreliable about telling me things about the past. Maybe when Tumblr tells me I have new followers, it’s often lying about that. Maybe there’s some other bug(s) in the Tumblr activity tab. Or maybe when Tumblr looks at how many followers I’ve had in the past, it forgets to count the ones who’ve since unfollowed me. So, a few things that could be happening: maybe I’ve gained 21 followers and lost 17 in the same time span – and I’m misremembering how many total followers I had a month ago. number of followers Tumblr now says I had a month ago: x26.number of followers Tumblr says I have now: x47 (the number did climb to x52 at one point in the past month, though the activity graph doesn’t show that bump).number of followers I’ve gained this month, according to new follower emails: 21 (22 according to my activity tab).number of followers Tumblr told me I had a month ago: about x43 (IIRC).And the number of followers Tumblr now thinks I had one month ago is substantially smaller than it told me I had a month ago. But when I look back at my activity graph for my number of followers over the past month, it’s steadily gaining the entire time, never dropping or plateauing. So possibly I’m just hemorrhaging followers about as fast as I’m gaining (which is fine, by the way! follow me only if you want to I don’t care). I keep getting more followers (accompanied by “ is now following you” emails), but my follower count keeps dropping a lot of days, and climbing very slowly overall.
